Jagannath Temple of Puri is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to the phenomenon, and is located in the city seaword Puri is in Orissa State, India. Name of the Jagannath (The Lord of the Universe) is a collection of Sanskrit words Jagat (Universe) and Nath (Lord). The temple is a pilgrim's journey important for many of the Hindu tradition, believers, especially Krishna and Vishnu, and part of the Char Dham pilgrimage tours that have visited a Hindu life.

The temple is famous for its annual Rath Yatra or Car Festival, in which the three main temple deities are carried in cars decorated with huge and complex. Since medieval times, which is also associated with acute religious fervor? The temple is holy and Saint Ramananda Vaishnava tradition was closely matched with the temple. Also of particular importance to followers of Gaudiya Vaishnavism whose founder, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, was attracted by the deity, Jagannath, and lived in Puri for many years.


Origins of the temple

According to the copper plates demonstrated recently by the Ganga dynasty, the temple of Jagannath current structure was launched by the Governor of Kalinga, Anantavarman Chodaganga developer. The Vimana Jagamohana and parts of the temple were built during his reign (1078 - 1148 AD).
